Questions, answered
Is there a daily limit on expenses?
No. Add as many groups and expenses as you like, every day, on the free plan. There are no ads either.
Is Splitax free?
Yes. Groups, unlimited expenses, receipt scanning, settle-up, reminders and budgets are free for personal use, with no ads. A Business plan adds a partner portal, and you can try it free for 14 days.
Does Splitax move or hold my money?
No. Splitax tracks who owes what and shows how each person can be paid. You send the money yourself, by Interac e-Transfer, Zelle, Venmo or any other way, and then record it in Splitax.
How do I split rent with a roommate who moved in mid-month?
Make the group a household and add rent as a regular bill. Each month Splitax posts it automatically and pro-rates everyone's share by the days they lived there.
Does Splitax work with Interac e-Transfer?
Yes. Add your e-Transfer email in Settings. When a friend owes you in Canadian dollars, Settle Up shows them your email and the exact amount to send from their own bank. Once it lands, you confirm it in Splitax.
Can I use Splitax for a trip in another currency?
Yes. Each group has its own currency, such as CAD, USD, EUR or GBP, and personal expenses can be in any currency. Splitax doesn't convert between currencies, so pick the one your group will settle in.
Do my friends need to sign up?
To add expenses, yes, and it takes under a minute with email or Google. If the group admin turns on guest view, anyone with the invite link can see the balances without an account.
Is there an iPhone or Android app?
Not in the stores yet. Splitax works in any modern browser on your phone or computer, including Safari on iPhone, and native Android and iOS apps are on the way.
How does receipt scanning work?
Take a photo of the receipt or upload one. Splitax reads the store, total and date and fills in the expense, and you check it before it's saved.
How do I delete my account?
From Settings → Delete account, or by following the steps on our delete-account page. Your personal data is removed; shared group expenses stay so your friends' balances remain correct.
